In front of a packed house of family, friends, and admirers at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vancouver on January 15th, Magnet sophomore Ashley Teng earned a Gold Medal for her flute performance of Flute Concerto 1st mov., by Carl Nielsen. She was matched up against eight of the area’s brightest young musical stars who performed for $1000 scholarship awards and the opportunity to perform as guest artists with The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) at its 23rd Annual Young Artists Competition on April 22 & 23 concerts at Skyview Concert Hall. To qualify, dozens of area musicians under the age of 18 submitted audition recordings to the VSO and were judged by a blue ribbon panel of professional musicians. Congratulations, Ashley! We look forward to your upcoming performance with the VSO and Maestro Salvador Brotons. Cheers!
